The 2011-12 Dollars for Scholars campaign was a success! The WHS PTO appreciates all the parents, staff and companies who have contributed to this important fundraiser. Dollars for Scholars allows the PTO to support our students and teachers throughout the year. Every $1 donates makes a difference!

WHS PTO Spirit Scholarship – apply now!

Attention Seniors & Senior Parents!
It’s time to apply for the PTO Spirit Scholarship. Seniors may download the guidelines here. This year the PTO will award ten $1,000 scholarships. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 27 at 3:15 p.m. (That includes recommendations, too!)
Check out the guidelines for all the details. The program is independently managed by the Westside High School Scholarship Committee. Selection of recipients will be made by the WHS Scholarship Committee. In no instance will any member or officer of WHS PTO participate in the selection. All applicants will be notified of their status on or before June 1, 2012.

The new officers for the 2011-2012 Westside PTO were approved at the meeting on April 5. Serving as PTO president for next year is Debbie Noriega, and for a full list of officers plus a list of committees click here. Town Hall meeting on Cuts to Public Education Funding

Come learn about the proposed state cuts to public education and the direct impact to our public schools in Houston and the state. Local officials and school administrators will discuss how these severe cuts will make changes in your schools, including classrooms, this fall. You will have an opportunity to voice your concerns and learn what can be done about it. Town Hall meetings will be held Saturday, April 2nd & 9th. Save Texas Schools Rally, March 12

Parents for Public Schools of Houston is providing 2 buses leaving from the Hattie May White HISD Administration Bldg. at 4400 West 18th St. (across the street from NW Mall) at 7 AM on Saturday, March 12 to attend the huge Save Texas Schools Rally and March in Austin. This is a state-wide event which will bring thousands of Texans together to protest the enormous budget cuts to public education proposed by the Governor and the majority party in the Legislature. The bus will return to Houston by 5:30 PM. The March begins at 11 AM at 12th and Trinity in downtown Austin and proceeds to the south steps of the capitol. The Rally is scheduled on the south steps from noon until 2 PM.
To ride these buses you must RSVP to Nancy Lomax by email at nrlomax@comcast.net, or call 713-668-7075. This is a family friendly event. Children over the age of 4 may accompany their parent on the bus. Please bring a pillow, a sack lunch, drinks, and snacks because there will be no opportunity to buy food in Austin. (These items may be left on the bus during the Rally.) Please come and bring a friend. And don’t forget your umbrella! It’s raining on the future of Texas!
